Lab Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain procedures for shipping/receiving, lab consumable inventory management and lab asset management to optimize lab operation and execute and train the lab team on these procedures.

  • Provide equipment knowledge to engage with scientist external service providers on troubleshooting and coordination of instrument repair and up-keep with vendors to ensure scientific progress despite instrument down-time.

  • Coordinate with logistics to order laboratory consumables and negotiate the best prices for supplies; address any issues with orders.

  • Manage service providers responsible to deliver service for laboratory instrumentation/equipment including servicing, repair, validation, and calibration.

  • Work with EHS to maintain application and maintenance of permits required for lab operations (import/export, fire safety, etc.)

  • Support good safety practices and in ensuring alignment of facility operations with EHS, including internal audits.

  • Assist with the budgetary management for the lab operation services.

  • Act as a local expert in company lab operations technical matters e.g., LIMS and permits, and provide professional help and guidance to others, as appropriate. Act as main local liaison between the lab team and other internal and external functions.

  • Participate in the development of lab support operations practices, First Response plans and Operations Manuals for each managed lab support function and ensure they are regularly reviewed and updated.

  • Collaborate regularly with scientists to identify and address any workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, opportunities for process improvement, and logistical or administrative issues in the lab.

  • Assist in the preparation, planning, and management of Facilities related projects.

Desired Education and Skills:

  • BS or MS in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or a related field with 4+ years or MS with 5+ year of relevant job experience

  • Experience with vendors and service groups across a variety of companies and instrument platforms; Excellent knowledge of computers and experience with databases required.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and with external contacts in a fast paced and demanding environment.

  • Exceptional organizational, time management and critical thinking skills, lab notebook practices and attention to detail are essential.

  • Excellent multi-tasking and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Must possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision.

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.

Lab Associate

Key Responsibilities:

●      Support and tracking of waste management (i.e., Collection of biowaste, chemical waste and sharps containers).

●      Maintain the consumables list, order lab consumables, organization, and labeling of lab consumables.

●      Daily management of LN2/CO2 gasses (i.e., tracking gas levels).

●      Replacing and ordering new gas tanks/cylinders as needed.

●      Tracking, shipping, and receiving of mail and packages.

●      Glass wash/autoclaving of glassware (i.e., bottles, beakers, graduated cylinders etc.)

●      Coordinate and host service technicians and ensure the work is being done according to schedule.

●      Assist with inventory management for Lab Operations (i.e., equipment inventory, chemical inventory).

●      Support lab equipment monitoring and respond to equipment failure alerts.

●      Support good safety practices and ensure alignment of lab/facilities operations with EHS.

●      Monthly testing of critical emergency equipment such as eyewash/shower.

●      Freezer maintenance/organization including thawing/cleaning and labeling.

●      Assistance with the coordination/installation of equipment maintenance and service agreements.

●      Refilling and cleaning bead/water baths.

●      Replace/bleach vacuum traps as needed.

●      Replenish first aid supplies as needed.

Desired Education and Skills:

●      AS/BS in relevant field and 1-3 years of job experience in fast-paced bio-tech industry.

●      Basic understanding of equipment and eagerness to learn.

●      Experience in customer service. Excellent conflict resolution skills.

●      Excellent knowledge of computers and experience using Microsoft Suite required.

●      Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and with external contacts in a fast paced and demanding environment.

●      Exceptional organizational, time management and critical thinking skills.

●      Excellent multi-tasking and creative problem-solving skills.

●      Must possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work with moderate supervision.

Lab Technician

Key Responsibilities:

●      Support waste management (Collection of biowaste, chemical waste and sharps containers).

●      Maintain the consumables list, order lab consumables, organization and labeling of lab consumables.

●      Daily management of essential gasses (tracking gas levels) and working with the vendor in the ordering and replacement of new tanks.

●      Tracking, shipping and receiving of mail and packages.

●      Glasswash/autoclaving of glassware.

●      General lab and office maintenance.

●      Light facilities maintenance tasks.

●      Emergency 24/7 alarm response.

●      General cleaning and sanitization of the facility.

●      Ordering and stocking of office and coffee supplies.

●      Ordering, stocking, and organization of lab consumables.

●      Conference room and work station set up.

●      Monthly testing of critical emergency equipment such as eyewash/shower.

●      Any other activities and tasks reasonably requested by the company

Desired Education and Skills:

●      AS/BS in relevant field and 0-2 years of job experience in fast-paced bio-tech industry.

●      Ability to work in a face paced and dynamic environment.

●      Flexibility and acceptance of change.

●      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

●      Observant with a strong attention to detail.

●      Ability to perform work in the laboratory in a clean and safe manner.

●      Ability to collaborate with scientists and management, which can be described as a  “team player” approach.
